There are a few standards to check when buying a heat pump. Two of the main signs to look for are if the unit is MEP’s compliant and also has the ‘C-Tick’. If they are MEP’s compliant it means they have reached or exceeded the Minimum Energy Performance Standard necessary for sale in New Zealand and are registered with the EECA (the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority).

The heat pump should also display the industry standard ‘C-tick’. This mark shows that the unit meets the New Zealand requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility. It pays to check for this mark as unlabelled products canHYPERLINK “http://www.rsm.govt.nz/rfi/index.html” interfere with radio and television reception and potentially cause problems for the communication systems of emergency services.
